Saratoga Race Course is an exquisite Thoroughbred horse racing track situated on Union Avenue in Saratoga Springs, New York, United States of America. It was opened in 1863 and is considered the oldest continuous racetrack in the nation. The first year the track opened was an event for cricket players and later became the first harness track in the entire country. Today, over one hundred Thoroughbred horses compete annually at the track, as well as over one hundred runners for the same competition. The course has been repeatedly voted one of the best horse racing tracks in the world.
There are various reasons for the popularity of the Saratoga Race Course. One being that it is considered the best when it comes to horse racing. Over one hundred different types of breeds are allowed to compete in this race, compared to only fifty in another high profile race track like Belmont Park. This allows the race to accommodate all styles of horse from the very old time classic Thoroughbred to today’s very modern day breeds. The Thoroughbred horses run a one-mile race over one stretch of the course.
When Saratoga Race Course was built, there were no hotels in the immediate area, and therefore the wealthy people who came here stayed in mansions. These wealthy families would ride their horses to the course and then spend the day enjoying their hard at it racing at the course. Because there were not enough hotels for the people living in the area, there started to be a push towards a more luxurious resort area. As a result, the course started to grow in popularity, and many people got involved in horse racing. It is still a very prestigious sport today.
The race course was expanded, and today it has horses running all the way around the course. There are four classes for horses that race on this challenging course. They are as follows; Appian, Spanish Cappuccino, Sponda, and Belmondo. Many have taken part in trying to beat the distances in these four classes. But no matter how far a horse will go on any given day, they will start out on the wrong foot if they are racing against somebody who has had previous wins at this particular course.
If a horse wins on the Appian, it means that it was the fastest of the four classes to cross the starting line on the first try. On the other hand, if it wins on the Spanish Cappuccino, then the horse needs to be the second fastest horse to do it. Next comes Sponda, which was the third fastest of the four races. Then Belmondo was the fourth horse to cross the starting line at the Saratoga Race Course. These are the only four horses that have won on the course and those who finished in the order they finished were deemed to have done so correctly.
Today, there are more than seventy-five racers that will compete in this race. Because there are so many runners, each one is given a number, and these numbers help to determine who runs where. The first three in line are the starter and also the back. The rest of the field is divided up into three different categories.
Each category has its own speed limit when it comes to applying the whip on the horse. As long as the horse can stay within one hundred yards of the other horse in its respective category when it begins the race, then that horse is considered to have run the course under the rules of the race course. When a horse is declared to have run the course, then a win is declared and that horse is considered to have won the race.
As a matter of fact, all equine shows are based on how each horse ran the course and not on who was declared to have won. In addition to this, the Saratoga race course has become famous because of the various kinds of animals that have won here over the years. Many of the winners have been known for their fighting ability. In fact, at some point in time, there have been many recorded horse races where the winner was related to fighting. The whole reason behind the races is to allow the jockeys to wear the stripes that are associated with the winner and to also allow them to make a statement about their ability.
