How to Safely Use a Saw Horse at Home Depot

Home Depots has long been the preferred location for building construction, and with good reason. If you’re looking to buy, build or repair your home, visiting a Home Depot (or comparable retailer) can be one of the best decisions you can make. They’re a great place to go shopping for lumber, building supplies and furniture. However, it’s important to be aware that they’re also a warehouse. There are some things you should know before entering. Below are the most important safety tips you should follow if you visit Home Depot or one of their competitors:

Lock up your saw horses. Home depots aren’t notorious for having safety problems. However, saw horses at home depots can be very dangerous, so it pays to practice proper safety techniques. Lock up your saw horses when you’re not using them.

Watch out for flying saw horses. Home depots are notorious for transporting wood or other large items in their trucks, but saw horses at home can also be hazardous. For these and other safety tips, be sure to research the company you purchase from and read through the seller’s safety guidelines.

Watch out for hot saws. Home depots are often the recipient of a variety of different saws, including both table saws and extension limbs. It’s important to always use the correct tool for the job you’re trying to complete. For example, it’s generally OK to use a table saw to cut something larger than your headroom. But it’s a different story if you’re attempting to cut something as small as a dresser. Never leave a hot saw on the work bench, and make sure to keep it out of the reach of children.

Use caution near or on saw horses. Home depots are often among the most hazardous places in a home. Many accidents occur there, mainly due to negligence. If you have pets, make sure you put them in another room while you’re working. While saw horses can be dangerous, particularly if they have wheels, there are precautions that can help ensure a safe experience.

Installing the unit yourself is one way to reduce the chances of an accident happening. If you’re good with tools, try to tackle the project yourself. Or, contact a local home improvement store and ask them to install it for you. Doing so will save you some money as well as provide the added peace of mind you need to feel comfortable at home.
